Vernon Forrest was shot and killed in a carjacking attempt last night at 11 pm in Atlanta. Vernon Forrest was a member of the 1992 Olympic team and a former WBC super welterweight champion. The incident happened last night when the boxer was at a gas station filling air in his Jaguar. Two men came in a red Chevrolet Monte carlo and tried to steal his car. Forrest had a gun and he went chasing after them. There were a few shots and Forrest was found shot 7-8 times .
“He was one of the most gracious and charitable fighters in boxing and he will be missed by the entire boxing community and all of his friends at HBO,” HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg told The Associated Press.
This is the third death of a boxer this month after Arturo Gatti and Alexis Arguello
