India has launched its first nuclear powered submarine INS Arihant. The INS Arihant built with Russian assisstance puts India as only the sixth country with nuclear powered submarines after US, Russia, France, Britain and China . Prime Minister Manmohan Singh  at the launch in Visakhapatnam in the south east coast remarked that launching the INS Arihant, India had no aggressive designs on anyone. But the sea was becoming increasingly relevant to India’s security concerns .

The INS Arihant can stay underwater for long periods upto 100 days unlike the diesel powered submarines which needs to surface every few days to refuel.  The 6000 tonne INS Arihant will give India the capability to launch ballistic missiles upto 300 kilometers .

Incidentally today is  “Vijay Diwas” marking India’s triumph over Pakistani intruders in Kargil 10 years ago in 1999

Lexmark printers with touchscreen...

They are designed for the SME (small and medium enterprises) and the new printers have many innovative features and cutting edge technology. Lexmark International has announced that it will release a new line of all rounder printing devices, known as AIO (All-In-One). The official release of the product is expected next September 1, 2009.

Lexmark will present eight new Lexmark inkjet AIO, designed for SME. These products are innovative starting from the new designs and going to the touchscreens.

The new family includes three devices with touchscreens. These devices include an innovative interface thanks to the technology from Lexmark myTouch with 4.3-inch touchscreens.

MyTouch technology forms a new approach to user interfaces, including graphical icons for easy reading in order to simplify the management of core functions of the All-In-One teams, as well as easy, intuitive navigation.

Lexmark designed these rugged printers with the needs of SME in mind. SME are not individual users and often need a high output at an acceptable cost and a device can be easily configured and accessed by a small team.

Microsoft about Google OS Chrome: it’s simpl...

Currently, blogs have turned to be venues of mass communication, but we expect more from an OS than simply being a comment on a blog - as Microsoft describes the new Google OS Chrome.

google-chrome-browser-logoMicrosoft continues its onslaught against Google, saying that it does not feel any discomfort due to the future operating system Chrome. Microsoft expresses indifference to Google plans to launch in 2010 its operating system based on open source. “For now, Chrome is simply a comment on a blog,” says Bill Veghte, a spokesman for Microsoft, to the news agency DPA, citing the official Google blog, announcing Chrome OS.

The Linux-based operating system for netbooks will be available during the second half of 2010. Microsoft bases its comments by remembering us of what happened long before Google launched its final package of online office applications, which were considered as an alternative to Office. The Google Office package did not debunk Microsoft’s alternative. And Microsoft is even preparing an own line version.

Microsoft also pointed out to the huge network of partner software developers working on programs for its new platform, Windows 7. Microsoft is organizing a large scale conference for partners in New Orleans. The event is normally attended by 9,000 Microsoft business partners and attention will focus on Windows 7. The primary interest is to ensure that the Microsoft “ecosystem” indeed works properly, i.e., applications and hardware components and software are compatible with the new platform.

According to Microsoft’s own figures, 16,000 partners develop software developed for the Windows 7 platform. Not an easy task to emulate by the new Google OS Chrome.
