The remains of Captain Michael Scott Speicher have been positively identified by the Department of Defense . Scott Speicher’s F-18 was shot down during the Gulf War in 1991. He was listed as Missing in Action until now.
Remains were recovered over several days during the past week and flown to Dover Air Force Base for scientific identification,” the Defense Department said.

The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology made a positive identification based on teeth in the jawbone which positively matched Speicher’s dental records, both visually and spectrographically.
Michael Scott Speicher was promoted to Captain and awarded the Purple Heart after he went missing.
The agonizing search and confusion for the family has come to an end. In 2003 Speicher’s initials MSS were found in an Iraqi prison which had raised hopes of him being alive.
