Bill Buckner just emerged from the Wall in left and made his way to the mound among a thunderous ovation from the Fenway crowd. Dwight Evans, Buck’s teammate from 1986, caught the pitch.
Buckner stood on the mound for about a minute, as the cheers rained down. All is forgiven at last.
And now Johnny Pesky announces, “Play Ball!” It’s Daisuke Matsuzaka vs. Kenny Rogers.
Everyone said that the chances where that he would be cheered thoroughly since Red Sox fans finally got their championships since his incident in 1986. He committed a costly error that may or may not have blown the 1986 World Series for the Red Sox. You can see that here:
